As valuable as maps are for preliminary study of an area, they have certain disadvantages. The chief
disadvantage is the rapid obsolescence of certain map data. The depiction of man-made features on older maps may
be unreliable. And since it takes so long to make a map, some of the information on it could become obsolete before
the map is printed.
