(2) Planking. To determine the nominal sizes of planking, use Table 1-1. When applying
scaffold planking, you should-
Use planking that has at least a 2-foot overlap. Secure planking well to the wood
scaffold. Use planking of uniform thickness and lay it close together for platforms.
Planking must overlap and be fastened at supports. Paint planking only at the ends to
identify it and to deter its use for other purposes.
Test scaffolds and extensible planking (extended to working length) by raising them 1
foot off the ground and loading them with weights at least four times the anticipated
working load.
