FRAME 2.
TYPES OF RATIOS
Now that you know generally what a ratio is, you will learn to calculate and interpret 4 types
of ratios:
a. fractions.
c. percentages.
d. index numbers.
Each of these ratios will be covered in the following sections.
The first and most basic form of ratio is the FRACTION. It compares two numbers by
division of one by the other. For instance, in our previous example, 25 miles to 1 gallon would be
expressed as 25/1. It still means that 25 miles is divided by 1 gallon. It can also be expressed
25 to 1, 25/1, or 25 4 1. They all mean the same thing but we will work here with the fraction.
QUESTION:
If you traveled 50 miles on 2 gallons of gasoline, what would the fraction be that
expressed miles to gallons?__________________________________
