FRAME 8.
PERCENTAGE is the relationship of a part to the whole. There are four basic variations of
percentage that must be examined before this tool can be properly utilized.
a.
Percent of total.
b.
Percent change.
c.
Percent deviation.
d.
Percent of programed.
PERCENT OF TOTAL compares one item or group of items to the total number of items. For
example, if the total budget of 0,000 for a service school includes ,000 for TDY trips, the
TDY trips (,000) would be 15% (,000/0,000) X (100) of the total budget (0,000).
Note that a part of the budget (TDY trips) has been compared to the total budget. In terms of a
formula it would be:
Percent of total = Part
X
100
Total
= 60,000 X 100
400,000
Percent of total = 15%
