FRAME 1-20. INFORMATION FRAME.
Within the broad categories of strategic and combat intelligence, there are many specialized types which pertain
primarily to the missions of various arms of the service. Engineer intelligence is processed information needed in
the conduct of engineer operation in a theater. It is required at all echelons for tactical, technical, and strategic
purposes. Although it is gathered by and for engineers, it also provides an important contribution to the overall
intelligence effort.

FRAME 1-47. INFORMATION FRAME.
Regardless of the method used, reconnaissance has as its main purpose the examination of a specific geographic
area or feature, such as a road or bridge, to provide detailed engineering information about the feature or area.
The reconnaissance methods commonly used by engineer personnel are discussed in more detail in lessons 2
and 3 of this subcourrse.
